As insurance security you will also be asked to leave a refundable security deposit of £500.00 when you collect the motorhome. This acts as an insurance excess during your hire, and will be refunded provided that the vehicle is returned clean and undamaged as described in our terms and conditions.

Your motorhome hire will be available for collection from our depot in Romsey between 14.30 and 17.00 on the first day of your hire period. Weekly rentals start on Saturdays, subject to availability.

When you collect your motorhome it will be provided with a full tank of fuel, and you must ensure the tank is full when you return it.

The motorhome driver must be aged between 25 and 70 and must have held a full British driving licence for at least 2 years. For motorhomes exceeding 3500kg gross weight, drivers must hold a C1 category on their licence. This was automatically granted to drivers whose licence was gained prior to 1997.

Additional drivers can be authorised to drive the vehicle for a small additional charge, as can holders of foreign licences. If the driver has penalty points on his or her licence, please check.

Yes, provided we are notified in advance so as to provide the additional insurance cover required. For motorhome hire outside the UK the insurance excess is £750.

The high driving position, well placed mirrors and power steering make modern motorhomes easy to drive.

Unlike when towing caravans, motorhomes in the UK are subject to the same speed limits as private cars (unless they exceed 3500kg unladen weight. So the speed limit on motorways and dual carriageways is 70mph, and 60mph on single carriageways. For vehicles over 3500kg, the speed limit is 70mph on motorways, 60mph on dual carriageways and 50mph on single carriageway roads.

When parking you need to ensure that you have enough space around you to manoeuvre the vehicle easily. Make use of the well placed mirrors and try to avoid busy areas. The easiest places to park are large supermarkets and railway stations. These are well signposted, have easy access and are usually within walking distance of town centres. Watch out for height restrictions in car parks and avoid them unless they offer at least 10 foot of height.

Parking a motorhome in the centre of most big towns is difficult and best avoided. Because of their height, motorhomes cannot be parked in multi-storey car parks. Parking a motorhome in central London is virtually impossible, and there is also a congestion charge for vehicles entering the central area. We suggest that if you intend visiting London, park the motorhome on the outskirts and use public transport.

The driver and passengers must wear the seatbelts provided. Correct child restraints must be used for children under 3 at all times. Correct child restraints should also be used for children aged from 3 to 12 (or under 135cm in height) whether travelling in the front seats or the rear. If the correct child support is not available, these children must travel in a rear seat using an adult seatbelt.

We provide a range of crockery, cutlery and utensils for you to use along with a range of safety equipment. You will need to provide your own bedding such as pillows and sleeping bags, towels, washing up liquid and extra toilet rolls! Make sure you have taken out travel insurance to cover you in the event that you lose or damage any of your personal possessions. Please note, we can rent bedding sets at £20 per person if required.

In Britain and most areas of Europe it is forbidden to park a motorhome overnight on the roadside. Therefore it is best to pre-book a campsite pitch before you leave, particularly at busy times. As a bonus for Wessex Motor Homes clients we offer free membership of The Camping and Caravanning Club Priviledge Scheme which enables you to stay on any of their sites at members’ rates – a worthwhile saving!

Our motorhomes are maintained in first class condition and are thoroughly checked and cleaned before collection. In the unlikely event that you do experience a problem, all of our motorhomes are fully covered by Roadside Assistance.

The motorhome must be returned between 08.30 and 11.00 at the end of the hire period to ensure the motorhome is available for the next booking.

Failing to return the motorhome will incur a charge – see our Terms and Conditions page. There are no refunds for early return.

The motorhome must be returned in a clean and tidy condition, with a full tank of fuel and an empty waste tank.
